Meet Mindy
Mindy was 19 year old and was a normal kid, she was at school and had a good relationship wither her parents. Drugs and alcohol were never a problem for her, she stated 'I didn't drink, smoke pot or anything'. Her boyfriend was into heroin and although she was tempted to try it she did not. Then in 2009 he jabbed with a syringe filled with heroin, Mindy was shock at first, but then grew to need the drug.
At first she was just using once a week but then she became addicted and needed it every day. Mindy was stealing money from her parents to buy the drugs. The combination of lying, stealing and the addiction led to a breakdown. She told her parent about her drug use and tried to quit, but she couldn't.
Later in 2009 Mindy was expelled from school, for taking drugs on her school retreat. Her parents gave her a job at her fathers business while they looked for ways to help their daughter. It was then when they found us. We helped them get Mindy the help she needed to quit using.
As we work closely with Odyssey House, we got Mindy in there and she was doing great. they helped Mindy to get back on track with her school and help her with her sobriety. But Mindy still struggled with her addiction. She relapsed a couple of time when she left Odyssey House but by May 2010 Mindy had it all under control.
Mindy finished her degree in mortuary sciences, and is taking life one day at a time.
It brings a smile to our faces that we were able to help Mindy and her family.
